Background of the Study
Agriculture plays a critical role in the economy of Nigeria, with rural areas heavily dependent on farming for livelihood. Zuru Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State is no exception, as the area is known for its rich agricultural resources, including rice, millet, and groundnut production. However, the productivity of agriculture in Zuru has been influenced by a range of geopolitical factors, including land tenure systems, access to markets, infrastructure, and environmental conditions shaped by both internal and external boundaries (Usman & Buba, 2024). Geopolitical boundaries often determine the distribution of resources, land access, and the movement of goods, all of which directly affect agricultural practices and productivity. The role of state and national policies, border regulations, and cross-border trade agreements with neighboring countries like Niger and Benin also plays a crucial role in shaping agricultural output in Zuru (Jibril & Aliyu, 2023). This study aims to examine how these geopolitical boundaries affect agricultural productivity in Zuru LGA and how local farmers navigate these boundaries to optimize their production capacities.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Agricultural productivity in Zuru LGA faces numerous challenges, many of which stem from the interplay between local, state, and national geopolitical boundaries. Issues such as land disputes, limited access to markets, inadequate infrastructure, and fluctuating policies concerning trade across borders have negatively impacted agricultural output. The study seeks to assess the influence of geopolitical boundaries on agricultural productivity and identify strategies that could mitigate these challenges to enhance food security and economic development in Zuru (Jibril & Aliyu, 2023).
1.3 Objectives of the Study

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides an understanding of how geopolitical boundaries shape agricultural productivity in Zuru LGA, with implications for local governance, policy formulation, and sustainable agricultural practices. The findings will be valuable to agricultural policymakers, local government authorities, and farmers in Kebbi State, offering insights into improving agricultural practices, market access, and resource management (Usman & Buba, 2024).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is confined to Zuru Local Government Area in Kebbi State and specifically focuses on the impact of geopolitical boundaries on agricultural productivity. The study does not extend to other regions of Kebbi State or Nigeria. Limitations may include difficulty in accessing data on land ownership and trade regulations, as well as the challenge of isolating the direct impact of geopolitical boundaries from other factors influencing agriculture.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

Geopolitical Boundaries: Physical and political lines that delineate regions or countries, influencing the movement of goods, services, and people (Jibril & Aliyu, 2023).

Agricultural Productivity: The output of agricultural activities in relation to the input of resources such as land, labor, and capital (Usman & Buba, 2024).
